Dwell

RECOLOGY ARTIST RESIDENCY, SAN FRANCISCO CA | 2012

‘Dwell’ was the primary piece created over a 3-month artist residency. Over 600 raw speaker cones, audio wire, cast iron chair and found sound samples.

Inspiration | Concept: This place: the dump - the final resting spot for what we call garbage that we no longer want in our lives. Value and meaning stripped because of where they are now: not belonging to anymore nor wanted by anyone. The walls and ceiling of this speaker ‘cave’ emanate sounds I found from old telephone answering machines, reel-to-reel recordings from the 70's and mixed tapes, for example. What story do these fragments portray? The magic of ambiguity engulfed these things, being that they came from people I do not know, all over the city. Dwell investigates the story that happens at the end of the story, where things go in attempt to lose all meaning.

SOUND: “found sounds” from old answering machines, reel-to-reel tapes, mixed cassette tapes, ect..
